Like most places we visit, it takes a while to start to understand the area. Gettysburg battle would take a lot of time to really understand, but in the last 3 days we have a basic understanding of what happened here. We still can not imagine all of those soldiers being killed on both sides. I think we all need to take some time and reflect on what others have done to make our United States united.
This is Little Round Top mountain, the Union army was about to loose this hill on day two of the battle when reinforcements came in, but did not have time to load their guns and just ran down the hill to meet the Confederates in hand to hand battle. The loses were terrific on both sides.
This tree overlooked Devils Den and I was taken by its perfect shape.
This is Devil's Den, Confederate solders were killed by the hundreds in these rocks as they tried to take the hill.

We walked up to the look out on the Pennsylvania Monument. You can walk up to the area just under the dome.
Another pic of the Pennsylvania Monument. The plaque on the side is a list of every soldier that was at the battle and a star on each one that was killed.
Another case where the Missouri soldiers did not have time to load their guns and had to do hand to hand conflict. They were outnumbered 4 to 1. The Confederates were about to break the line of the Union Army so they stopped them and they were successful at a great lost of lives.
New York memorial on Little Round top.
